Orchards is nestled in the rolling hills of
three generations. Though dwarfed by larger neighboring farms, consistent
attention to quality brings families back, some-times from hundreds of
miles, year after year to pick their own tree ripened peaches, apples and grapes. The Shafers will greet you with a friendly smile, and show you where and how to pick some of the best fruit produced anywhere in the world.
There are nearby attractions for all ages. You can visit several wineries
which are a part of the growing Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail, here in
or Weko Beach. Blueberry Picking is available at several area farms. Check out the Hickory Creek Cow and Goat Dairy. Visit Flora Lia for Honey and charming gifts and enjoy the friendly farm animals. Pet “Snood” the famous friendly turkey.
July 2014 Update……The peach crop is very light this year due to the long cold winter and loss of many of our older peach trees. Add to that the recent violent storms which caused many young trees to need staking to stabilize the root systems. At this point we are considering not opening the U-pick until Apple season. We hope to make that decision by the 20th of July. In either case the peaches should begin to ripen about August 10-15th. We ask for your patience as we consider the best way to handle the very limited peach crop.
The Apple crop is lighter than normal, but look to be of sufficient quantities for U-picking.
